U.S retail sales last March of video game hardware, software and accessories dipped by 10 percent to $992.5 million. According to NPD Group Inc., hardware sales fell by 32 percent to $221.6 million while software sales slipped by only 1 percent to $554.8 million. It should be noted that physical sales accounted for about 50 percent of total U.S. consumer spending on games.
